Margaret Hazel Ross
September 24th, 1927 – February 12th, 2018

Margaret H. Ross aged 90 died in her home in Hillsboro, Oregon on February 12th, 2018. Margaret was born in Stratton, Colorado September 24th, 1927 to Roy W. Smith and Eva I. (Messenger) Smith. She was raised and educated in Colorado while living on a farm with her parents and sister Mildred. She moved with her family to Colorado Springs, Colorado during WWII. In early 1944 the family moved to Renton, Washington to work for Boeing Aircraft until the end of the war. Margaret was very proud of her wartime work. She subsequently returned to Colorado briefly before moving to California in 1945. She lived in Alameda, California working a variety of jobs and attending Merritt Business College for a year. It was during this time she met Oliver L. Ross her future husband. On March 24th, 1951 she married Oliver Ross in Reno, Nevada. She continued working until they had their first daughter Carol in November 1955 followed by their son Stan in November 1957 and their youngest daughter Janet in September 1959. She was a homemaker until the family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon in November 1968. Margaret returned to work when their youngest child started 3rd grade. She worked for GAF Corp. in Beaverton, Oregon for 12 years. During Margaret’s retirement she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading, tackling difficult puzzles and being a caregiver for her husband and elderly mother. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Ross, son Stan Ross and brother in law Clark Rolow. She is survived by her sister Mildred Rolow and daughters Carol Kunz and Janet Haaheim. As well as her grandson Tristan Kunz, granddaughters Elizabeth Haaheim, Melissa Jones and husband Jeffrey Jones. She has four great grandchildren: Ryan Kunz, Kamerin Kunz, Mason Jones and Jackson Jones. Margaret’s family will miss her deeply and cherish the moments they spent with her. They are grateful her illness was brief and that she passed while asleep at home just as she wished. As Margaret intended a graveside memorial will be held for her on February 23rd at 1:00pm at Fir Lawn Memorial Park in Hillsboro, Oregon. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Children’s Cancer Association. The following words are from a hymn that Margaret found comforting.
Hymns of Promise
In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; In cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free! In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be, Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; There’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; In our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity, In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
